Act IV and V

Aaaaaaaand scene!

This week for… A Novel Bunch

So we made it. Over reading break we had a bloody good Caesar-themed party, and we also finished If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio. And can I just say, what an ending! I didn’t see that coming! Just kidding… I definitely saw that coming. If We Were Villains was a story about stories and, perhaps more importantly, the people telling those stories. Maybe it really wasn’t about what happened in the end but truly just the friends we made—and killed—along the way. That being said, we will have all the time in the world—or at least an hour or so tomorrow—to discuss our thoughts and feelings regarding the final chapters of the book. In case you forgot, we will be meeting Wednesday at 5:30 PM (17:00 hrs.) in the gallery. If you wanted some inspiration, we’ve included, as always, some discussion questions below for your pondering.

  1. Do you like the ambiguous ending? Why or why not?

  2. Was James justified in killing Richard?

  3. Who was the real villain of the story?

But wait… There’s more?

Yes that’s right, as we close the page on one book, we open up another, it’s time for everybody’s favourite game… CHOOSE… WHAT… BOOK… WE… READ… NEXT! (Still workshopping the title). Following your suggestions and at the discretion of the ANB high council, we have assembled for you a totally rocking list of books that you will get to vote on in the next meeting! Some familiar faces are back again, with some fresh blood to make for a balanced breakfast of reading champions. Please follow the link below to see a list of the books with descriptions included, but for your reference I have also compiled an abbreviated version for your convenience. Now show them what’s behind door #1!

  • Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

  • Yellowface by R.F. Kuang

  • Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner

  • The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

  • Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

  • Circe by Madeline Miller

So read up on these exciting options and make your choice. Or don’t read up on them all and just vote. Democracy ladies and gentlemen. But just know that fate hangs in the balance… All the power is in your hands to—say it with me—CHOOSE! WHAT! BOOK! WE! READ! NEXT!!!

Yours truly,

Ty
